[twitter user=”@online_ocsports”]March 16, 2014, San Elijo State Campgrounds, Encinitas, CA . What a beautiful two days of sunshine, warm weather and a medium size fun swell to start what I would consider the start for 2014 spring and summer. With well known surf manufactures like Lost Surfboards, Quiksilver, Billabong, and Body Glove wetsuits. Local board builders JS Surfboards, Robert August, Surftech, Panda Surfboards, Channel Islands, and Rusty Surfboards. Also represented were FCS and Futures fins, Sector Nine Skateboards, food by Banzi Bowls, Bull Taco, and Sierra Nevada Beer. It was a great weekend to demo that bat tail board or a top of the line Isurus wetsuit. Major sponsors were Surfing Magazine, Subaru Autos New Era, Surf Ride and 94.9. All proceeds benefit California State Parks. San Elijo campgrounds is a perfect place for this type of event with one of the most popular southern California surf breaks at its back door with the city of Encinitas and Cardiff by the Sea on either side of the campground. This is a great place to demo boards, wetsuits, fins, and talk to factory reps. Had a chance to stop and talk with Sam August, son of legend surfer Robert August about the upcoming fiftieth anniversary of the iconic surf film “Endless Summer” to be held at the Huntington Beach Hilton on May 3. It was nice to see that the August tradition and craftsmanship will be carried forward into the future of modern surfing .
